27/04/2009Anna Massie joins Blazers
Blazin’ Fiddles makes it’s first line up change with the addition of former BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician winner, Anna Massie. Fiddler Aidan O'Rourke has decided to spend his time focusing on the ever-amazing trio Lau. He felt he wanted to give more time to them and made the difficult decision to step down from Blazin' Fiddles. They have been touring extensively and have just released their second studio album. In January guitar player, Marc Clement, also made the decision to move on to other work and projects.
Marc and Aidan have been with the band from the beginning and will be missed. It was a new venture for the band to find replacements in a line up that hasn't changed in the last 10 years. It was at Celtic Connections that the opportunity arose to invite Anna Massie to join Blazin' Fiddles. Anna takes her place with the band on guitar but will play some fiddle as well (it takes one woman to fill the shoes of two men!). All the band agrees that Anna will be a great "first new member" in the band. The band is scheduled to play its first gig with Anna at the Perth Concert Hall on the 10th May.
The band is delighted to make another return visit to Cambridge Folk Festival and looking forward to Stokes Bay Festival and Snape Maltings. Blazin' in Beauly will take place from the 19th to 24th October, including a big Saturday night show on the 24th, and then northern England and Scotland tour dates from the 28th October to the 8th November. They will cap the year off with a Hogmanay show in Inverness.
Plans are also underway for a summer release of their 10th anniversary DVD.
